How Cheens wore her new skirt and shoes!!

Yet again..it’s Cheens!! I can’t help it. She has been so cute in her childhood days that I love weaving stories of such amusing incidences from her life. Presented this time is another episode from the pages of her life…But this did not happen when Cheens was anymore a kid. Rather this was some time when she was in her school days. So let’s take another dip into the sweet and adorable memory lanes of my Cheens.

Our mademoiselle was in her tenth year at school. Generally in India that’s the last year in school and students move on to junior colleges. And naturally the farewell for the class of tenth is a big affair, holding special value for the invitees as compared to the hosts. This is a big turning point in the lives of the students passing out, as they all would be leaving the closed boundaries of school and getting into wider arenas. Lots of things would be left behind – friends, teachers, home works, lunch breaks, PT classes, disciplined school life, class picnics etc.

For Cheens, not only this function held special importance, but any occasion demanded special preparation. As such the farewell was a major event, so it called for meticulous preparation. One more thing that she was very particular about was - new costume. She would never go to any function wearing a dress she would have wore even once, anytime before. So every function meant fresh and new shopping. And we know how all girls are!!! Only dress would not do, they need all accessories to be matched with the clothing.

Friends decided to go ethnic and wear typical Indian outfits. So Cheens picked up a pink coloured lehnga choli (This is a typical North Indian dress with a short blouse kind of a top with a flowing skirt as the bottom. But it ain’t that simple to look at. It has too much intricate designing that goes into it which makes it gorgeous). So first round of shopping is done and she picks up the dress and the colour for the evening was pink, that’s what she chose. What was left to pick up was shoes, may be a purse to carry, matching jewelry etc. With this particular piece of wear one can dress up real gaudy and it won’t look out of place, as it’s a very traditional piece.

All was done in bits and pieces and she left no stone unturned to gather the perfect pink clutch, bangles, earrings, a pendant with a chain. Somehow constraint of time played a bad role and Cheens could not buy a pair of matching shoes, but as we know everything else was in place. The teenage girls can be more finicky than you imagine. She had a small yet lengthy tiff with mummy dearest on the D-day. And she remained adamant that no ways she could wear an old shoe and go to the party. But the fact remained that she could not go shopping at that hour and also that she was running a little behind the schedule so had to rush to the venue as quickly as possible. Suddenly from some where she realized that there was a new pair of shoes she had bought recently, for some other purpose and to her good luck she had never wore it till date. She picked up that shoe, wore it, even if it was a total mismatch with her complete attire. Only reason for wearing that shoe was that it was new and it also had added glamour to it in terms of high heels. Thus finally she set off to the party. Gathering at the venue was good and ambience enjoyable. Everyone aware of the fact that Cheens would be in new clothes, were enquiring and admiring it. Cheens was more than happy to flaunt her new dress and the accessories.

Generally those lehnga or gahagra (whatever you may call it) are pretty long and such is their fall that the footwear gets hidden beneath them. Lightening strikes and Cheens realizes that her shoes are not getting showcased because of the designer bottom. Unable to hold back her anxiousness and excitement, Cheens picks up her lehnga to her ankles and shows off her new shoes to all around.

Epilogue
But why do I think this episode is funny and worth a mention?? I wouldn’t do it unless it brought a smile to my face. When I speak of this story, my only motive is to portray the complete mismatch that Cheens made that day by wearing a pink gear with a tiger print shoe, ballerina to be precise. She did this out of her stubbornness to wear something new. She had much better shoes that she could have worn that eve but, she didn’t. It’s anybody’s guess that none of her friends would have appreciated the combination, not even her shoe.
And that was the day when Cheens realized that inflexibility for a frivolous reason doesn’t help, rather smart thinking could have won her (more) compliments!!
